Requirements for Semaglutide and Tirzepatide

BMI of 30 or higher

This indicates obesity and is a primary qualification for weight loss medications like semaglutide.

BMI of 27 or higher with a weight-related condition

If you have a BMI between 27 and 29.9, you may qualify if you also have a condition such as high blood pressure, Type 2 diabetes, PCOS, or high cholesterol.

Contradictions for Semaglutide and Tirzepatide

Personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer (MTC): Rodent studies showed an increased risk of thyroid C-cell tumors with semaglutide. While the risk in humans has not been confirmed, it is not recommended for those with a history of this rare cancer.

Multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2): Patients with this hereditary condition, which involves tumors in the endocrine glands, should not take semaglutide.

Serious hypersensitivity reactions: A history of a severe allergic reaction to semaglutide or any of its ingredients, including anaphylaxis or angioedema, prevents future use.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Semaglutide is generally not recommended for those who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant. It should be discontinued several months before a planned pregnancy.
